Tet 1968: A Case Study of Operations in the Information Environment

Abstract

Information is now established as the seventh warfighting function due to how critical it is on all operations across all domains. To truly understand the impact information can have on warfare, it is beneficial to study a successful example of operations in the information environment (OIE). The 1968 Tet Offensive provides a historical example of OIE significantly influencing the outcome of a war. The analysis of the Tet Offensive demonstrates the power of controlling the information environment by influencing, disrupting, and corrupting decision making in order to ultimately undo the US government and achieve strategic victory.
