Force Protection in the Cognitive Dimension: Media Literacy Training to Defend Against Social Media Influence Operations

Abstract

Due to the proven use of social media influence operations by US adversaries, individual habits during information consumption, and the resultant vulnerabilities within the cognitive dimension, Marines must learn to identify social media influence attempts to protect individual cognitive processes and, by extension, the integrity of Marine Corps command and control. Media literacy training that helps Marines discern key elements of social media influence content would be an effective tool to help accomplish this goal.
