Enhancing the Effectiveness of Professional Development for Aviation Restricted Officers

Abstract

United States Marine Corps aircraft readiness has failed to meet Commander Naval Operations (CNO)Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) goals for many years. This paper will argue that the Marine Corps is not properly investing in the training required for the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), in the aviation community. The supposed SMEs in USMC Aviation are the MOS 6004, Aircraft Maintenance Officers. Current USMC training requirements for MOS 6004 does not enhance their ability to properly supervise maintenance personnel or produce aircraft readiness.
