United States (US) Marine Corps Operational Logistics within the US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) Area of Operation (AO)
Abstract
The Marine Corps will play a critical role across all levels of war during a conflict in the USINDOPACOM AO. In order to effectively set the theater during the competition phase, the Marine Corps must adapt to the challenges presented by the People's Republic of China (PRC). First, the Marine Corps must delegate authorities based on mission and not rank. If the Marine Corps concept of support remains linear, the size of the USINDOPACOM AO along with the requirement to enable naval forces through sea denial and sea control will prove unsupportable. Second, a less hierarchical and flattened logistical network will be able to tap into operational unit such as LOGCOM. LOGCOM has untapped potential which has the capability to increase a Commander s freedom of movement by driving down the amount of logistical risk associated with maneuver. Finally, DLA is merely one example of the agencies that the Marine Corps can utilize in the US INDOPACOM theater. Joint, allies, and partner nations are all suited to provide varying levels of support external to the Marine Corps. A multi-faceted supply chain will benefit the Marine Corps and provide a roadmap for success of the entire joint force.
