Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations Requires Access
Abstract
The US Naval services updated key operational concepts when the Obama administration announced a renewed focus and balance towards the Indo-Pacific and the Trump Administration's declaration of China as the US's primary competitor. The United States Navy developed a Distributed Maritime Operations (DMO) and Littoral Operations in a Contested Environment (LOCE) concepts. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) developed Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO) as a complementary operational concept to support Naval operations. The success of these operational concepts depends on US forces' ability to operate away from known fixed locations that China's advanced military capabilities can easily target.
