Weaknesses Persist In Defense Overseas Cash Management Program

Abstract

Improvements continue to be needed in the way the Department of Defense operates its overseas cash management program. More economical and efficient means of providing dollars to overseas military installations and banks and better program monitoring and cash controls would reduce the excess cash which remains a problem despite recommendations made in two previous GAO reports on this subject, Recommended program improvements would make sufficient funds available to enable the Treasury Department to reduce its borrowing costs by an estimated $1 million annually.
