Toward Advancing Critical and Creative Thinking in the United States Professional Military Education Curricula: Peering inside the Chinese Box

Abstract

One of the goals of PME is to expand critical thinking skills that can be applied in complex situations. To expand critical thinking, officers must be exposed to other military theories in their designated courses to formulate solutions for future conflict in the event of War. The issue is that officer PME is constrained by a consuming focus on Western military theory, such as Carl Von Clausewitz, while non-Western theory is not being studied at a similar, laborious depth as Western/European war theorists.
