Abstract

The Marine Corps first aviator, Alfred A. Cunningham, wrote in the September 1920 Gazette: The only excuse for aviation in any service is its usefulness in assisting the troops on the ground to successfully carry out their operations. In the article titled, Value of Aviation to the Marine Corps, Major Cunningham continues to discuss ways aviation would prove to be beneficial to the Corps.
