Federal Catalog System: Continuing Item Identification Problems

Abstract

In March 1986 GAO briefed the Chairman of the Task Force on Department of Defense (MOD) Inventory Management, Senate Committee onArmed Services, on problems concerning DOD supply management practices. Inadequate identification of many of the 6.1 million supply itemsin the Federal Catalog System, a long-standing and costly problem, wasone of the problems discussed in the GAO briefing.
