Research on the Weldability of Iron Alloys Weldability Tests of Silicon-Manganese Steels

Abstract

An investigation on the effect of silicon content with varying carbon and manganese on mechanical properties and weldability of 24 steels indicate that silicon is to be preferred to carbon or manganese for the production of high strength normalized steels for welding; the silicon steels showed lower weld hardening and higher weld ductility results.
