Using Advanced Data Analytics to Transform the Aviation and Missile Command Financial Community into a Data-Centric Enterprise
Abstract
Data analysis, or the process of understanding data (to include Big Data) is challenging every aspect of business today. Big Data involves large volumes of structured and unstructured data. Data analysis is growing at such a rapid pace, leaving many organizations behind. The ability to keep up with this exponential growth is important for competitive advantage and survival. Not only are private industries affected by the demands of understanding data, but the United States (U.S.) Federal Government is also under scrutiny. Pressure was placed on agencies to get connected and involved with data analysis immediately. As a result, the federal government published a Federal Data Strategy in 2020 and an update in 2021 calling all federal agencies to get on board with conducting data analysis. As a result, this study is to understand how leveraging data analytical tools can assist with optimizing financial resource allocations for effective management of Operation and Maintenance - Army (OMA) funding for the Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) G-8 Resource Management Directorate. AMCOM G-8 has made great strides in accomplishing the goals of the federal strategy by developing an AMCOM G-8 Resource Management Analytics Academy (AA) Data Analytics Certification Program for its employees. However, a critical element may be missing with effectively deploying these data analysis tools to AMCOMs Resource Management community. This research will take a closer look at what industry is doing as it relates to data analysis and compare their efforts to those of AMCOM G-8 to determine what other opportunities may exist for the Command.
