Exploring New Frontiers in Pre-Clerkship Medical Education Delivery: Using Transcendental Phenomenology and Agency Theory to Explore the Role of Pre-Clerkship Module Directors

Abstract

Purpose: This thesis seeks to generate an understanding of the role of integrated pre-clerkship module directors (MoDs) from the lived experience of three stakeholder groups: those who have operated in this role, students who have learned from MoDs, and faculty who are educational collaborators of the MoDs. By developing a rich description of the essence of this phenomenon, we aim to advance our understanding of the complexity of this leadership position. Furthermore, we hope to stimulate further research so that both medical educators and their supporting institutions may develop stronger pre-clerkship leaders and curricula.
