Implementation of a Bougie-Assisted Cricothyrotomy Training Program

Abstract

DGMC anesthesia department lacks a cricothyrotomy training program. Cannot intubate, cannot oxygenate scenarios occur in 0.07% of procedures, and may result in patient death. The last step of the difficult airway algorithm is to place a surgical airway. However, 30% of emergency cricothyrotomies placed by anesthesia providers fail.
