There's an App for That: Mobile Applications to Improve Sleep

Abstract

About 65% of Americans regularly get the Center for Disease Control (CDC) (2017)recommended seven hours of sleep per night. Inadequate sleep impacts physical, mental, and emotional health and the mission and safety of military service members. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT-I) is the gold standard of insomnia treatment. CBT-I based sleep applications(apps) use accessible technology to improve sleep. The purpose of this project was to determine if an educational intervention utilizing CBT-I based sleep apps increased app usage and improved sleep quality over a five-week timeframe among military service members.
