Relationship between BMI/Physical Activity and Burnout in Dental Residents
Abstract
Burnout is a stress-related entity that is highly prevalent in the health care field, with most existing studies looking at physicians and medical residencies and a dearth of data at present on dentists. The limited information to date has found a burnout prevalence of 40-50%among dental students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Burnout has been linked to severe health consequences including heart disease and even premature death. It has also been shown to increase the incidence of medical errors, potentially putting patients treated by a burnout sufferer at risk. There is some evidence of a possible protective effect of physical fitness/activity.
