Assessment of Mood and Cognition in Perinatal Smokers Attempting to Maintain Abstinence: Two Pilot Ecological Momentary Assessment Studies

Abstract

Cigarette smoking is a leading cause of preventable death in United States. Even though most smokers report a desire to quit, the majority of quit attempts end in relapse, even when using treatment. The perinatal period provides a unique opportunity for intervention, as many smokers quit smoking during pregnancy but relapse postpartum. Novel relapse prevention interventions are required.
