Flight Test Mind Map: Levels and Head Fakes

Abstract

This paper will present a visual depiction of core flight test fundamentals in the form of a mind map. Technical and non-technical flight test topics will be identified to provide an overview of the flight test education process. Broadly, the role of flight test in an organization will be discussed. An application of the mind map concepts will be presented for a relevant task. Technical communication skills will be emphasized as a core requirement for any flight test professional. Comparisons of current and future curricula of two established test pilot schools will be presented, focusing on resourcing differences that drive flight test education emphasis in various areas. Ultimately, the paper aims to provide a template to baseline anyone who enters a flight test organization, regardless of their role.
