Submarine Hydrogen Detectors
Abstract
The unsatisfactory operation of the one Mark I hydrogen detector removed from service due to faulty operation was verified in the laboratory. The direct cause of the change of calibration was found to be alteration of the catalyst cell. The underlying condition giving rise to this cause appears to have been inadequate repair facilities. A suggested system for repair and recalibration of these instruments after repair and general overhaul leads to the recommendation that other units which have been in service use should be studied for possible irreversible change of calibration. Reasons are given for a recommendation that the present test and recalibration methods be critically examined for needed changes.
