Implementing DHA Pain Management Procedural Instruction into Primary Care Clinics Using a Clinical Decision Support Tool for Pain Management

Abstract

Inadequate pain management within the military health system (MHS)threatens operational readiness and increases healthcare costs. Defense Health Agency-Procedural Instructions (DHA-PI) 6025.04, Pain Management and Opioid Safety in the Military Health System mandate using the evidence-based MHS Stepped Care Model for Pain Management (SCM-PM) across the Department of Defense (DoD). Keesler Medical Center(KMC) stakeholders reported inadequate compliance with the SCM-PM within primary care.
