Abstract

Insider threats are a long-standing concern within the Department of Defense, where individuals can use inside knowledge of their workplace, employer, or coworkers to threaten the security of U.S. national security interests, whether intentionally or unintentionally. As prior case studies have shown, insider threat events are difficult to predict, due to the complex interaction of multiple factors, combined with limitless unknown variables in an ever-changing world context.
