Refugee Flows and Instability

Abstract

Results Dissemination: Our working papers have been presented at a number of workshops and conferences in the USA, Cuba, and Turkey (as detailed under accomplishments). Beyond these traditional academic methods, there are a number of important ways in which we have tried to engage in outreach to non-academic audiences: First, the Istanbul workshop that Faten Ghosn attended brought together members of the Turkish government and representatives of a number of NGOs and IGOs that support refugee populations. Second, we have explicitly met with UNHCR representatives in Lebanon to discuss best practices for surveying and communicating with refugee populations. Third, Alex Braithwaite attended the 2017 Bridging the Gap summer research institute at the American University in DC in June 2017. This institute is designed to provide participants with tools to engage with policymakers and improve the quality of their "transitions" dissemination. This included holding a number of informal discussions with representatives of think tanks and government agencies regarding refugee policy. Fourth, the Germany workshop that Faten Ghosn attended brought together members of the German government and representatives of a number of NGOs and IGOs that support refugee populations. Fifth, we have interacted with UNHCR innovation lab representatives to discuss best practices for data analyses. Sixth, Alex Braithwaite attended a refugee resettlement workshop in Tucson, AZ, that brought together representatives of US agency and local NGOs that deal with resettlement of refugees in Arizona. Seventh, the UK workshop that Alex Braithwaite attended brought together academics with representatives of a number of NGOs and IGOs that support refugee populations. Eighth, we have established new relationships with both Mercy Corps and Catholic Relief Services to engage in collaborations moving forward.
