Toxicology Assessment for Work Unit Toxic Metal Reduction (TMR) 19-01 Zinc Nickel Alternative to Cadmium Electroplating

Abstract

The goal of this project is to qualify Low Hydrogen Embrittlement (LHE) Alkaline ZnNi electroplating as a replacement for Cadmium (Cd) plating at the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD). The replacement product should have reduced impact upon human health and the environment. None of the components of the new electroplating solution pose a high health risk to workers and the environment if it is used with adequate occupational health and environmental safeguards. A complete analysis of all formulations could not be conducted since some of the components have not been completely tested and the identity of some components was withheld as CBI.
