Using Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems to Monitor Golden Eagle Nests on DoD Installations

Abstract

This Guidebook is intended for Department of Defense (DoD) Natural Resource Managers and others that may be interested in using small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) for monitoring golden eagle nests or other natural resources. This Guidebook lays out ten key steps to guide your decision to use sUAS, and how to successfully develop a monitoring project using an sUAS. commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) sUAS continue to develop, as does DoD policy regarding their use. Whenever using this guide, it is important to verify policy with your own approval authorities at the time of use.
