Innovative Cognitive Assessment for Officer Classification

Abstract

A literature review was conducted, for the U.S. Army Research Institute, on research that was relevant to developing assessment tools for 10 of the cognitive ability constructs identified in previous research as important for Army officers. Specifically, existing construct definitions and measures were examined, and recommendations were made regarding the most promising measurement approaches given a set of identified parameters. Recommendations are discussed for the measurement of each of the 10 constructs, which included combining some of the constructs with overlapping operational definitions. Proof-of-concept items for six constructs are presented.
