AFRL-University Collaborative Center in Structural Sciences
Abstract
The 2013-2020 AFRL-University Collaborative Center in Structural Sciences (CCSS) is a four-university collaborative team from The Ohio State University, University of Illinois, Arizona State University, and Johns Hopkins University. The overarching goal of the CCSS was to collaborate with the AFRL/RQ Structural Sciences Center to provide methods and expertise to assess the state of a representative high-speed structural configuration. The CCSS was formatted such that there are three complementary research thrusts: a) Adaptive Multi-Scaling; b) Damage-Integrated Reduced-order Models; and c) Continuum Damage Models. Research projects within each thrust area were brought together through Integration Projects, and the methodology and results were transitioned to AFRL researchers. The CCSS enabled collaborative, multidisciplinary, DoD-relevant research for 17 PhD and Masters students, and 5 postdoctoral researchers.
