Domestic Abuse in the Armed Forces Improving Prevention and Outreach Appendixes
Abstract
Domestic abuse among members of the U.S Armed Forces is a public health issue with severe consequences for military personnel, their families, and, potentially, unit readiness. The Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy is sponsoring a RAND National Defense Research Institute (NDRI) study on military-specific risk factors for domestic abuse, best approaches for coordinated community response systems, and sustainable solutions for preventing violence before it occurs. The study will address Department of Defense priorities and meet Congress request for independent recommendations on domestic abuse in the armed forces per Section 549C of the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act.
