A Study to Determine the Feasibility of Retaining, or Revising, the Present Method of Storing Medical Records, St. Paul Hospital, Texas

Abstract

This report contains a study of the required time for storing medical records and duplicate copies maintained by the different departments. The feasibility of microfilming the permanent copy of the medical records retained at St. Paul Hospital, Dallas, Texas, is also discussed. Several departments were retaining their duplicate copies of medical records longer than necessary. Recommendations were made as to when each department could destroy the duplicates. It was recommended that St. Paul Hospital utilize microfilm for retention of medical records. The conclusions and recommendations were based on the content of the study.
