Description and Use of Electron Micrometer Tube - Type C796A

Abstract

The electron micrometer tube provides the engineer with a precise mechanism for the accurate conversion of small mechanical deflections into electrical currents. The Type C796A tube has a single plate which is movable between two indirectly heated cathodes. The plate is mounted on a stem which extends through the center of a flexible diaphragm to the outside of the metal envelope. Mechanical deflection of the outer end of the stem in the proper direction causes the plate to move closer to one cathode and further away from the other cathode. The two plate-cathode circuits are connected as two arms of a bridge circuit and the galvanometer current in this bridge circuit is used with or without amplification to operate and indicator, recorder or controller.
