A Study to Determine a Method of Coordinating in-Service Training of Common Basic Subjects for the Nursing Assistants and Male Attendants at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee

Abstract

This paper involved a determination of the most efficient method of coordinating in-service training of common basic subjects to be taught to nursing assistants and the male attendants at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. Information was developed by interviews, literature review and a study of present in-service training systems. It was concluded that the best alternative was a combination of centralized and sectional in-service training. It was determined that the hospital should: (1) hire an in-service training coordinator; (2) eliminate duplication of training aids and personnel; (3) hire a primary instructor for in-service training of male attendants; (4) delegate responsibility to a director of in-service training for all in-service instruction; (5) establish and maintain in-service training records for all personnel; (6) assign the male attendants directly to a ward and make them responsible to the floor supervisor in charge of that ward.
