Electrically Induced Heating of 20-MM Aircraft Machine Gun

Abstract

Tests were conducted to determine the feasibility of induction heating of the 20-mm aircraft machine gun Type M-3. Comparisons of the induction heater with a resistance heater indicate: 1. A 2000 Watt induction heater will be needed at an ambient temperature of -30C if there is an air blast through the gun barrel, and a 500 Watt heater will be needed if the air blast is eliminated.
