The Use of Hyperatmospheric Pressures in the Feeding of Steel Castings

Abstract

A study was made of the effect of hyperatmospheric pressures on the soundness and yield of steel castings. Pressures above atmospheric were found to be of no use in improving either the yield or the soundness of steel castings. Molding difficulties and casting defects arising from the use of high pressures discourage the use of pressures above 15 psi.
