Application of the Critical Success Factors Methodology to Development of a Microcomputer-Based Decision Support System at Naval Hospital, Millington, Tennessee

Abstract

The objective of this thesis was to develop and implement a microcomputer-based decision support system which would enhance senior executive decision making at Naval Hospital, Millington. Prior to the undertaking of this project, senior executive decision making at the hospital took place without the benefit of a responsive, coordinated management information system. The existing system relied heavily on manual data collection and processing and a limited amount of remote, off-line automation using antiquated punch card equipment and batch processing. The hospital commanding officer wished to pursue the development of a low-cost, off-the-shelf microcomputer-based system as a means of quickly upgrading the level of executive decision support.
