Rare Earth Elements in Africa: Implications for U.S. National and Economic Security

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of rare earth elements in Africa; summarizes the current U.S. supply-chain vulnerability in Africa; and discusses how regime-specific factors, such as good governance, can indirectly affect U.S. national security and investment decisions.
