Jordan: Background and U.S. Relations

Abstract

As of June 2023, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (hereinafter referred to as Jordan) remains a stable and, according to U.S. policymakers, vital U.S. security partner in the Middle East. Successive presidential administrations have considered Jordan to be, along with Israel, one of the most reliable U.S. security partners in the Middle East. Jordan considers the United States to be one of its most important international supporters, though it also relies heavily on members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)1for political and financial backing.
