Telemetry Standards, RCC Standard 106-23 Chapter 6: Recorder and Reproducer Command and Control

Abstract

This chapter defines the standard commands, queries, and status information when communicating with a recorder and/or reproducer (R/R) that uses random access storage (typically either solid-state or magnetic disk). Not all commands (CLI or discrete) may be applicable to all types of R/R implementations. Commands are used to a) control the data flow into and out of, b) request the performance of an internal operation within, and c) request status information from an R/R. The primary intent of this chapter is to cover terminology included in or consistent with the Chapter 10 standard. This chapter standardizes command and control (C and C) over a variety of different electrical interfaces. These commands can be transmitted via various electrical interfaces (ports) defined in Section 10.7 of Chapter 10, including Military Standard (MIL-STD)-1553, RS-232, RS-422, Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), Fibre Channel, IEEE 1394 (FireWire), internet SCSI (iSCSI) over networks, and Telnet.
