A Multi-Institutional Prospective Observational Study on Nerve Repair and Reconstruction Associated with Major Extremity Trauma

Abstract

This multi-center prospective observational study enrolled and followed 251 patients ages 18-65 undergoing surgical treatment for upper extremity peripheral nerve injury to examine variability in treatment approach and 2-year outcomes. Patients were enrolled at time of surgical treatment and were scheduled to complete follow-up visits at 3, 6, 12, 18 and 24-months following surgery. Outcome assessments included motor and sensory nerve function;range of motion and hand strength; surgical complications; and patient reported pain, upper extremity function, depression, PTSD, quality of life and return to work.
