The Development of an Effective Training Program for Employees of the Housekeeping Branch, William Beaumont General Hospital, El Paso, Texas

Abstract

The problem was to develop an effective training program for employees of the Housekeeping Branch, William Beaumont General Hospital, El Paso, Texas. Research methodology involved interviews with officials in the Logistics Division and Housekeeping Branch at William Beaumont General Hospital, as well as other officials at the hospital where there was an interdepartmental relationship. An extensive review of the literature was also conducted. It was concluded that a formal training program would be beneficial to the housekeeping employees and would serve to improve the proficiency of housekeeping services. A training course consisting of classroom instruction for basic subjects, in conjunction with well executed on-the job training, was determined to be optimal. Recommendations were made to institute a training program based on the data contained in the study.
