Fentanyl Synthesis Using N-BOC-4-Piperidinone

Abstract

Fentanyl was synthesized using commercially available N-BOC-4-piperidinone as the starting material. The process methodology is reported with experimental details, which avoided standard purification techniques. Fentanyl freebase, fentanyl HCl, and fentanyl citrate were synthesized with acceptable yields and high purity.
