Fishery Security is Maritime Security in the INDOPACOM Region

Abstract

IUU Fishing is a growing problem that threatens the vision of a free and open INDOPACIFIC region. This paper puts forth an argument to counter IUU fishing by expanding the mission of the INDOPACOM led Joint Interagency Task Force- West, creating a new intelligence fusion center, and expanding on U.S. bi-lateral enforcement agreements with other countries in the region. Additional Coast Guard surface forces and tactical law enforcement teams will also be necessary to expand the U.S. presence in the region and help bolster partner nation capabilities.
