A Study of the Coronary Care Unit at Galveston County Memorial Hospital, Texas City, Texas

Abstract

This study was undertaken to evaluate the patient care rendered in the coronary care unit of Galveston County Memorial Hospital. A retrospective review of the statistical data was used to judge workloads. This information was combined with interviews of the hospital staff and the direct observations of the author to ascertain the status of various parameters of coronary patient care in the coronary care section of the combined coronary care and intensive care unit. The literature was reviewed in an effort to delineate some of the aspects and standards of coronary care. The present quality of coronary care can be significantly improved by establishing a new and separate coronary care unit. Features to be considered in creating such a unit were discussed. This study concluded that such a project is feasible and indicated.
