Integrated Sonar, Type A, Mod. 3, as Installed in U.S.S. Foss, July 1948

Abstract

New design features of the Type A, Mod. 3 Searchlight Sonar System as installed in U.S.S. FOSS (E-DE59), July 1948 are described in detail. Nonconventional features in this installation include: Aided tracking in both azimuth and in depression, depth-determining equipment, dual displays showing target location within the sound beam in both vertical and horizontal dimension, and a geographic plot provided for the ASW officer, from which he can rapidly discern changes in target course.
