Army Enlistment Options Optimizer Research Approach, Findings, and Implications

Abstract

When Army recruiting prospects consider enlisting, they think about which job to select and how long to enlist for. These choices depend on the jobs offered and the incentives for them. Some Army jobs offer a bonus, and its amount depends on the urgency of filling the job, the recruits education level and Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) score, and the chosen term length. Given these factors, job bonus is the same for every recruit at a given point in time, though the bonus amount varies over time depending on recruiting conditions.
