Development of Virtual Surgery Technology Platform for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Abstract

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a serious medical condition with long-term health effects including cardiovascular risks, diabetes, metabolic syndromes, and decreased quality of life. It is associated with partial or complete obstruction of the pharyngeal airway during sleep. With limited effective non-surgical treatments for OSA, most patients with OSA eventually need surgical intervention for a complete cure. However, the success rates for most OSA surgical interventions are poor. Often, surgical planning is guided by the experience of the clinical team and hence, subjective.
