Effect of NMN Supplementation on Metabolic and Muscle Function in Prediabetes

Abstract

The overall goal of the study is to expand our pilot clinical study and further evaluate the translation of our preclinical findings of NMN supplementation on metabolic health in rodents to clinical therapy in people. To this end, we are conducting a randomized placebo-controlled trial in men and women with prediabetes to assess the effect of NMN supplementation on key metabolic, mitochondrial and inflammation outcomes. We started participant enrolment in September 2020. 66 participants have been assessed for eligibility; 28 participants have been excluded because they did not meet inclusion criteria; 38participants were randomly assigned to either group A or group B (placebo vs NMN). 20 participants have been enrolled ingroup A: 13 of these participants completed the study; 2 participants are currently active; and 5 participants have been withdrawn from the study because 1 had poor IV line access during the metabolic studies, 1 had a work conflict, 2 wanted to lose weight, and 1 had phlebitis. 18 participants have been enrolled in group B: 10 participants completed the study; 4participants are active; and 4 participants were withdrawn from the study because of poor IV line access (n=2), evidence of an exclusionary metabolic abnormality (n=1), and foot surgery (n=1).
