A Proposed Timing Control and Monitor System for the AN/SPS-2 Radar

Abstract

The AN/SPS-2 stacked-beam, height-finding search radar supplies precise target-position information at a high rate. To operate and insure efficient operation of this radar, a control and monitor system must be incorporated. An experimental control and monitor system has been developed. The control part of the system generates the master system trigger, the sensitivity time-control waveform, and the necessary gain and gate signals required for range gating and monitoring. The monitor part of the system consists of a continuous noise monitor to check the noise figure of each receiver channel and a continuous gain monitor for balancing and maintaining balance of the gain and log response of adjacent receiver channels.
