Targeting Piezo Ion Channels for Mitigation of Osteoarthritis Pain and Disease Progression

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to determine the roles of Piezo mechano-sensing channels in osteoarthritis (OA) and pain associated with OA using mouse genetic models. Two major aims areproposed.1) assessment of the effect of cartilage-specific loss of Piezo1 and Piezo2 in OA progression in surgically created OA in mice, and 2) assessment of OA-associated pain in Piezo2haplo-insufficient mice.
