Behavioral Health Monitoring Among Active Duty U.S. Army Soldiers, 2016-2020

Abstract

This publication describes the prevalence of diagnosed behavioral health disorders, the characteristics of the population diagnosed, their utilization of behavioral health care services, and the impact of behavioral health disorders on medical readiness. Annual prevalence across the period was 1315% among men and 2124% among women. Prevalence was highest for older Soldiers, senior enlisted Soldiers, and Soldiers who were widowed or divorced. Data suggest that each day about 3,000 Soldiers (0.6% of the Active Duty Army) are not medically ready for behavioral health reasons, which highlights the importance of further study and prevention of behavioral health disorders in this population.
