The Photonic Integrated Circuit Agent Sensing Sorbent (PICASSo) Project

Abstract

We have successfully demonstrated the use of an interband cascade laser emitting in the MWIR (lamda = 3-5 um) based photonic integrated circuit (PIC), in which the top-clad waveguide is replaced by two types of thin coating of functionalized sorbent polymers, a) HCSFA2 and b) oapBPAF, for the detection of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP, a phosphonate ester with HB basicity) vapors with a concentration as low as 0.1 mg/m3 (~20 ppb).
