Gain of Electromagnetic Horns

Abstract

The absolute gain of electromagnetic horns is usually measured by making use of two identical horns, one being employed as a transmitter and one as a receiver (Figure 1). If the aperture-to""'aperture separation is "R" and the receiving horn is in the "far field" of the transmitting horn, then the power per unit area arriving at the receiving horn is PA = (PT/4 pi R2) GT, where PT is the total power transmitted and GT is the gain of thetransmitting horn.
