Flight Testing of Helmet Mounted Displays

Abstract

The primary objective of this AGARDograph is to provide an overview of the test and evaluation of Helmet Mounted Displays (HMD) for air systems, including typical issues with these systems and risks in test execution. In addition, it aims to raise the awareness of the initial qualification activities needed to clear and accept the HMD system for flight test. Whilst the focus is on helmet mounted aircraft displays, many of the aspects described in this AGARDograph are equally applicable to head worn displays, which may be more widely used in civil applications. The aim is to provide a long-term reference guide for the test community to inform future test programs. The AGARDograph presents standard terminology, ratings scales, typical test techniques and considerations for the design of HMD and the testing of such systems.
